I sorely miss working by The Judge Cafe. On bad days I would treat myself to the veggie sandwich and fries with black coffee. I had a lot of bad days back then and came to love The Judge for its friendly staff, awesome food and historic building. It's a small thing, but they serve the coffee so nicely, with a napkin and saucer. This is how I imagine downtown restaurants to be like in the old days. And I really really love that.

Excellent cafe and grill, perfect combination of a cafe, and authentic food. Try the enchiladas, ranchero, or any of the weekly specials. This last week was salmon tacos, along with 6 other dishes. Mmm gotta say absolutely fantastic, fairly fast as well for lunch. So if you're working and would like something quick, also won't make you too late for your shift, eat at the judge. :) a lot of the dessert, and pastries, are baked in the morning and a lot of the recipes are homemade or made in house. Extremely authentic, and very delicious. Give it a try im sure you'll enjoy :)

I enjoyed my trip to this place. I haven't been for a long time and now I want to go more often. I had the cobb salad and it was great. The service was quick and friendly. I will be back again soon.

Delish! Their food is consistently tasty and the service is friendly. And DO NOT forget to get a cookie...so good!

Don't be fooled by this Yelp listing. This place does not spell it's name correctly. The sign says JVDGE. I'll let you...do that word...and decide who is wrong. Yelp? Or the sign? You be the...that word. Breakfast was decent here, though now that I think about it I may have had lunch. The waitress spilled a drink all over the table, so that was a slight bummer. No biggie, though. She was nice. The bathrooms here are very strange. You have to walk past a mini-gym in the basement of the building to get there. Like there's a treadmill, a lat pull down machine...it's weird. Or, maybe that's normal in Utah. I don't know. I don't want to...that word... anybody.

We were looking for a basic diner breakfast on a Friday morning in Salt Lake City. I was impressed, or shocked, at how quiet the town was. The restaurant is in the Judge building named after a local and built back in the early 1900s. We walked in the Judge and picked one of the many open tables. The waitress was friendly and got right to us. The coffee was plentiful and just ok. My wife was pleased that they had Tazo Awake tea. The breakfast was not overpriced. I had the eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast. My wife had them sway a pancake for the toast on her plate. The food came out hot and fairly quickly. Unfortunately my hash browns were hash whites. Everything otherwise was to order and tasty.

Checked this out for a quick lunch before continuing on our Roadtrip. Nice place, plenty of indoor/outdoor seating, nice quiet atmosphere. I had Corn Potato Soup with pasta salad and my friend had the Chicken Wing Burger. The soup was very good and the pasta was great. I tried my friends burger and it was delicious! Our server Chris was very friendly and helpful! Thank you for a great meal!

I've heard so much about this place, so I decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed at all! I got the salmon BLT with fries and it was so good. Their fry sauce is different, very tangy. I got a free chocolate chip cookie for checking in, and it was delicious! I don't know what it is, but there's kind of a unique taste in their cookies. I'll definitely be coming back to try other things.

Great sandwiches and a superb welcome from the staff. Tried this place upon entering town on a recommendation from a local and was not disappointed. Ordered the pulled pork which was tasty. I recommend this place for a quick lunch, dine in or take out.

Nice service , I got the chicken wrap and was perfectly wrapped tight. And there cookies are very freshly baked and delicous.

Had breakfast. Omelette was ok, nothing to rave about. Not remarkable except for the ambience and the history of the building. Service was pleasant. Convenient for the local office goers I guess.

Always use Judge Cafe for catering because every person is completely happy with their restaurant. I have never had one complaint after all these years of ordering catering through their company. Service- what I like about their company is they deliver straight to the business for me set everything up, which includes plates knives utensils napkins, plus uses heaters to keep the food warm. They will come back and clean up everything up and provide to go boxes if needed. They have always been on time never late and works around the business schedule. Menu- all the times I've ordered catering I have either gotten pulled pork sandwiches or the chicken enchiladas. Recommendations- either the chicken enchiladas or the pulled pork sandwiches. Seems like everybody's favorite is the chicken enchiladas. It comes with a mexi salad that is delicious with the sauce that comes as a dressing.

I ate at Jvdge Café and Grill yesterday for a quick lunch with my husband. I work across the street so I constantly see people coming into the office with their breakfast and lunch to-go orders and every single time the office ends up smelling tantalizing and delicious. So FINALLY after a year of people telling me to try out this place, we decided to go for it! I had the Sesame Chicken Salad - everything was fresh, the dressing was very light, and it had a nice balance of flavors. My husband had the special chicken wrap with sweet potato fries. Honestly, the sweet potato fries were the best thing that we ordered. No question about it. They were PERFECT! Crispy, tasty, not greasy, mmmm soooo good. Our only complaint about the meal was that we felt like we could have made it at home, everything was so simple. There was no special flavor that I couldn't replicate. I realize that we did try two basic items though - so when I go back, which I WILL BE BACK, I will update my review if I find anything different. *Currently* If you check-in you can get a free sugar cookie which is supposed to be amazing! Everyone at work talks about how perfect they are. We skipped the cookie because our bodies didn't need the added sugar (just got back from vacation so we've been staying away from sugar/junk/etc to reboot). But definitely a bonus. Yelp Check-In Bonuses are always nice! And the final note. Catering. We've had them cater for us at work a few times and I've never been disappointed. I don't order the food - just partake in it! My work generally goes with sandwich platters from various nearby businesses and Judge's are amazing! The sandwiches are always fresh and not soggy (don't you hate when the sandwiches get soggy!?). Plus they are flavorful! Geez... now I want to head to Judge's for lunch again....

Met my friend here on her lunch break because she recommended it. It was my first time here. It has cute diner decorations. Their menu is very diverse and they come out with about 8 weekly specials. So they are always changing it up. My friend ordered enchiladas they looked amazing! I ordered a club sandwich with no cheese. My sandwich Came with no cheese which tells me they pay attention to detail!

I came here for a business lunch and it was perfect. The food was so good. I had a wrap because I was trying to be healthy even though wraps are not my favorite, but I needed something other than salad. And I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The servers were great, they act like you are a regular and expect to see you back. It has that feel of being the place everyone goes for lunch. Lots of business people and has a small town kind of feel. Loved it!

This was my first time there, ordered a cheeseburger, and it was pretty good. The fry sauce was a little too spicy, but over all good burger. Price is ok for a burger!

Stopped in for breakfast before work. Their breakfast menu is small, but everything sounded so good I still had a hard time deciding! I went for a frittata and my friend had the Denver omelet. It's recently under new ownership, and they have plans to eventually open for dinner and on the weekends. It's currently only open for breakfast and lunch on week days. So if you live or work downtown, be sure to stop by and try this place out!

Pretty good variety of lunch options. Quiet, casual sit down atmosphere, but I often get mine to go. They make a decent cheddar burger.

My favorite downtown Salt Lake City eatery! The food and service is always excellent. Only wish they served dinner.

The food was pretty good, but nothing to get too excited over. The service was kinda bad though. We were the only ones sitting down in the restaurant, but it still took forever to get our food after we'd ordered, get checks when we needed to leave, and get the cards picked up after we got the checks (a couple of people in my group had to switch to cash so they could be on time for meetings). Even flagging the server down for more creamer for the coffee was kind of a pain, and when we did get the creamer it came with one that had already been opened and emptied. Nothing that happened was truly terrible, but I don't think I'll be going back.

The Judge Cafe used to be one of my favorite lunch spots downtown, but unfortunately they recently got new management and it's gone downhill. Service is not great now, and neither is the food. I will not be returning.

Tasty sandwiches. The meat and bread was very fresh. I like the pasta salad a lot. Cookie I had had a combination of oatmeal chocolate chips and macadamia nuts. It tasted very good, but was over baked and soul was a bit dry and hard. The box lunch comes with a sandwich salad, potato chips, and a cookie.

Good but not great, reasonably priced breakfast place. Had the LA Times omelette with bacon avo and pepperjack- it was OK, but they were skimpy on the cheese and bacon so it tasted more like egg than anything else. Hash browns were tasty. OK option when staying downtown and needing breakfast.....

it's was really good .I ordered the SLC's salmon one and it also has bacon, avocado n all! it's a must try when u go there.

It's an average priced breakfast/lunch however the service and mediocre soups leaves something to be questioned. I showed up prior to their lunch but was the first person here. I waited for an hour or so. Had some cookies and ordered the Maui chicken wrap with soup ($1 extra) the clam chowder was fairly bland and the chicken wrap was barley warm after my 20 minute wait for the food. Others who showed up after me were served finished eating and on their way prior to me. Probably wont return. Also my drink has been empty for over 20 min and there are only 3 other people in here.

Came into SLC for my first time on Pioneer Day. Not knowing what Pioneer Day was, I was beyond confused why all the lunch places were closed. The Judge Cafe was open, the server was so super friendly and cool - explained to us what the holiday was about and didn't treat us like ignorant tourists. I recommend the salads over the sandwiches - I ordered and sandwich while my mom and sister ordered salad - I had serious lunch envy. The salads looked fantastic. They also have some outdoor seating.

I was visiting SLC from out of town and I wandered in here one morning at an off-hour for breakfast. I was seated quickly by a pleasant guy, offered some coffee, and I ordered based on his recommendation- the LA Times. Man, was that a good omelet. Actually, the salsa that came on top was so good, I asked for more halfway through the omelet. The guy was eager to oblige- I only wish I could have taken some of this salsa home with me. Seriously, it was that good. The building itself was really neat too. I looked it up when I got back to my hotel and it has an interesting history. The meal was affordable (coffee and a 3 egg omelet with potatoes and toast for 10 bucks), the service was polite, efficient, and helpful, and the eggs were really quite good. Overall, it was a great breakfast and one I would recommend to anyone in the downtown area.

Perhaps the perfect downton SLC eatery. Now, I don't mean to say that it's knockout wowza food or that it's totally flawless service. But when you put the whole package together, there's nary a more delightful or solidly SLC place to get breakfast and lunch. Lending a hefty hand in this equation is the Judge Building itself. I did a little reading, and the Cliff Notes version is that the building is now over a hundred years old. It was constructed in 1906 by Mary Judge, who was a widow of one of the fellers that was involved in mining Silver in Park City. He died of "miner's consumption" and she made gobs more money on real estate. It was originally the Railroad Exchange Building where railroads had their SLC offices. And, although it's sad, it's also where a piece of the old Mark Hofmann story unraveled. And now you know a bit about the Judge Building. How much more downtown SLC could it get? Nowadays, the bottom floor is home to a cheery and spacious Judge Cafe. A bakery case greets you when you enter displaying some sweet treats to tempt your palate. Get a cookie. Just. Get. A. Cookie. The space is much larger than you first imagine, with a large doorway separating the brighter and airier front room with the cozier back room. Because of the tile floor, it does get a little echoey. It does, however, maintain a certain sense of coziness. The menu is mostly traditional cafe fare, with an upscale-y twist. There are some classic standby sandwiches, but my chicken curry wrap wasn't anything grandma would ever find on a menu. Royal & the gang have a moving specials menu, so you're not going to get bored on the larger than normal menu. Whether it's a bleu twist on the burger or a cuban take on the panini, they keep it simple but keep it moving. Put the food and the ambiance and the location all together and it's all the pieces to a proud downtown dining experience. A simple but stately cafe in SLC!

The breakfast here was pretty good. They even offered some of the lunches for breakfast when we asked. Staff was very friendly and kept our coffee and water glasses full. We asked for some adjustments to he norm and said we would pay more. They were very accommodating and didn't even charge extra. By far the most economical place we ate in SLC.

Qvirky space, near perfect breakfast. Come here at least once a week. Eggs over medium alway just right. Hash browns fantastic. Slightly thicker and heartier wheat toast. Hmm bacon. Coffee very good. Service always great. Love the building and inside space. Half marathon to reach basement bathroom past odd gym equipment and vending machine helps burn off calories from breakfast. Cookie counter up front. Western salon bar feel in back. It all works together very well. Serves breakfast until 11, very convenient, so serves as brunch for me. Lunch menu looks quite interesting.

Just to preface, I haven't really had any of the food here. I came upon this place while my sister and I had just finished eating at Maxwell's and we both had intense sweet cravings. It was while we were walking by that we found their window displaying beautiful cookies and macaroons. Gah. I'm literally drooling thinking about those macaroons. There have been so many instances where I've been turned off to them because basically they've just been hot messes. And by hot mess, I mean, hockey pucks of shredded coconut, where the macaroon is so dense that you seriously never want to eat coconut again, and that's a sad thing to make a southeast Asian feel. But no, these macaroons were light, the flakes/shreds of coconut were so easily distinguishable, and it was chewy in the best way possible. Also, they are lightly drizzled with dark chocolate to counter the subtle sweetness of the coconut. It was a perfect macaroon, there's no easier way to say it. The other thing my sister and I got were the cookies. I opted for a dark chocolate, hazelnut cookie, that was a bit disappointing after the macaroons, but would have stood alone quite well. for 6 macaroons, and 1 cookie, we spent $3, not a bad deal.

First time in SLC and was looking for a hearty breakfast before hitting the road. Hotel desk clerk recommended this place and I confirmed on Yelp. This place rocks. Nice, big open space and really friendly server. I'm also picky about my food and they were really accommodating with my meal (e.g., letting me sub bacon for toast and potatoes, giving me a mug of hot water for the tea I brought -- I know, I'm picky...). The food was fantastic. And they have free wi-fi to boot! If you are in need of a solid breakfast in a cool atmosphere with outstanding service, look no further.

Went here today for a business lunch and it was really good. When they said the name of the place I was a bit thrown as the sign is JVDGE not JUDGE so I wasn't sure it was the same place, but it was. Anyway, this place is right next door to Jimmy Johns and if you blinked you would miss the entrance. They have a good variety of stuff for lunch. out of the 6 of us 3 had salads and 3 of us had Sandwiches. I chose to do the half sandwich and frys "combo" and it was well worth it. The frys have a good spice to them and for those utahn's that want Fry Sauce, they have that too. The food quality was really good and the service was great. I always judge service by my drink glass and it never fell below mid way the entire time we were there. In short, I would recommend a visit, and I for sure will go back...

Here comes the Judge! What a great little downtown eatery. My go to choice here is the Vegetarian Sandwich, which is a step above the typical veggie sandwich- an assortment of crisp veggies, with a thick schmear of house made hummus. Yum-O. Good assortment of menu selections, ranging from cold sandwiches to hot ones to soups to Southwestern type foods- such as chicken enchiladas, chips & salsa and guacamole. The wait staff has always been very pleasant, though it can be just a tad slow at times. And from what I understand, they have a full bar.

The food is always fresh and delish! Their portion size is perfect so you're not waddling out of the door. I recently had the chicken and tortellini. It was a light salad with just the perfect ratio of chicken, tortellini and salad.

I came here for breakfast by default, its been at least 20 years since I last ate here. the portions are a little smaller than most breakfast places which is probably for the best. I had a Denver omelet which was the best Denver I've had in recent memory! The coffee was just OK but the Denver made up for it and hash browns cooked just right.

We use this place alot for catering at my work and I thoughtt aht I should at least let them know that I really enjoy their sandwiches and they are on time with orders and I am glad my company uses them.

If you're looking for an $8.00 sandwich with decent sides, this is the place. Friendly staff, quick service, average deli food. I also heard this place is a Utah classic--especially among lawyers--but it didn't seem particularly busy when we were there, and the food is nothing to write home about. Bottom line: decent deli food with a nice dining room.
